2025 VISION BOARD

What to Consider when Planning for a Successful New Year

Everyone envisions an *aesthetic* new year for themselves.

The iconic Aperol spritz by the Colosseum before getting on the back of an Italian pretty boy’s motorbike, achieving financial success by the millions upon millions, catching more planes than feelings, and collecting more passport stamps than kisses- these sorts of things.

It’s the perfect time to start visualizing your 2025 goals! But there are a few key steps you must consider that will help map out to your vision.

Here are 8 ways I have structured my previous New Year’s resolutions that have helped me to reasonably set both achievable and lofty goals:

01. Reflect on 2024

You first need to understand what about this year you liked and want to bring into the next year, and what you did not like and will not bring with. This will become your framework for what’s to come this year.

02. Consider the Goals You had for Yourself that You Didn’t Achieve

You probably had good intentions; in fact, you probably even were consistent with them for two weeks last January. But for whatever reason, the habit dropped. Be honest with yourself about why your goal didn’t stick. Usually, it’s not because of laziness. Maybe it’s because life got busy or it got difficult to put into motion and to keep in motion.

If you are still thinking about wanting to do the same things next year that you wanted to do at the beginning of the year, that likely means they are still important to you and worth taking seriously enough to pursue. Set up more actionable and reasonable steps to make it to succeed this year.

03. Focus on what Really Matters to You

Is it your health? Finances? Business growth? Happiness? Friendships and relationships? Art and creativity? Travel? Goals need to be scheduled into our daily lives. There are only 24 hours in the day and we can’t do everything. Overloading your vision board with unrealistic goals takes away from clarity and is possibly why you struggled to keep them in the first place.

Realistically examine the way you spend your time and know that there will have to be tradeoffs in order to implement new habits into your routine. For example, if you want to read more, that might require you to put more boundaries around social media if that’s where you determine you spend an hour or two of your free time. Say NO to most distractions so that you can say YES to a few new special practices.

04. Be Realistic but Not Too Realistic

That all being said, save some space for interpretation. If you’re like me, nothing is quite as satisfying as a completely crossed-off to-do list. I make lists every single day and at the beginning of each year. I love surpassing my own expectations. I like to aim high, even if each and every item on my list isn’t likely to happen.

One goal I put on my list each year is to see two NEW countries. This year that did not happen. But I did see eight repeat countries and spent nine of the twelve months traveling abroad. I consider that a success.

05. Leave Room for Surprises

Don’t stress if not all your ambitions are in motion all at once. It is okay to prioritize things at different times or adjust your expectations. Sometimes life unfolds in ways out of your control. So roll with that.

06. Review Your Vision Board Often

Don’t just leave it in the first two weeks of January. I usually go over mine at the start of each month. I want to see if there is anything I am neglecting or forgetting about.

07. Let Your Goals Motivate Your Actions

Want to take a summer girl’s trip? Stay at an all-inclusive resort for your birthday? Work with more dream clients? Let those goals motivate your day-to-day actions. Borrow some of that anticipatory dopamine to make it happen.

08. Realize that Not All of Your Goals will be Fun

And that’s okay. Discipline is needed to achieve really awesome missions. It pays to spend a few weeks, months, or even the whole year saying no in order to gain more yesses down the road.

You’re Finally Ready to See Your Goals in the Form of Visuals

Once you’ve finished your list, it’s time to have some fun with it. This is the good part! You can get really crafty and pull out your magazines, glue, glittery pens, stickers, fun tape, and a colorful poster. But scouring Pinterest and creating a board with beautiful photos that signify your goals works just as well.

Or you can also use Canva. They have thousands of tools and templates to create vision boards. That’s what I used to make mine, which you can see below. I did not use a template but created a collage-style of images that represent some goals of mine (which you can check out on Instagram!).

You can use whichever method you most prefer. The only important thing is that you add your favorite images, colors, text, quotes, or patterns. The sky’s the limit. All that matters is that you create something that makes you feel happy, excited, and inspired for 2025 when you see it.

2025 Vision Board. Prepare for the new year with clear goals and a plan of action.
